Porcupine Tree is a British progressive rock band formed in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England. It is the most successful project by musician Steven Wilson, as evidenced by its growing popularity. A mix of early progressive rock, psychedelia, ambient and, more recently, metal is present in their recordings. This shouldn't come as that much of a surprise given that self-taught audio engineer and producer Wilson listens to many different genres of music for inspiration. Wilson once commented: "I like so many different types of things, and they all go into the melting pot, if you like, that produces the music of Porcupine Tree."

Marty Casey is the lead singer for Lovehammers, a Chicago-based modern rock band. Recently Marty was runner-up on Rock Star: INXS, Mark Burnett´s reality series centered around the search for the new lead singer for the rock band INXS. While on Rock Star, Marty became a fan favorite and introduced his original tune "Trees" to much acclaim, prompting co-host Dave Navarro to say "I could hear that song on the radio today." Their debut album on Epic Records, titled Marty Casey and Lovehammers, was released January 24, 2006 and features the song "Trees." Marty Casey and Lovehammers are touring in 2006 and have just completed the first leg of the INXS Switched On tour as the opening band. It is expected that Yorke will release The Eraser, an album of solo material, on July 10, 2006 in the UK and July 11, 2006 in the U.S. [4] Produced and arranged by Nigel Godrich, featuring cover art by Stanley Donwood, it is due to be released on the independent label XL Recordings. Thom has said that this album will be "more beats & electronics" and has denied that it means he is leaving Radiohead stating "I want no crap about me being a traitor or whatever splitting up blah blah... this was all done with their blessing, and I don't wanna hear that word solo. It doesn't sound right." The album was leaked onto the Internet in its entirety on May 30, 2006.

Some Historical Stuff About Punk Rock

As we reach the end of the sixties its perhaps a good time to stop and make some observations. Now it probably seems seem like the history of punk is all cause and effect i.e. that one band influences another band who influences another and so on until we get the Sex Pistols.

However like history itself, this is never true. There is a pool of bands like the MC5 and Velvet Underground, The Who and Stooges who are making seminal contributions to punk yet are making their own way and their own sounds and not necessarily influenced by each other. We have the development of non commercial dark or political music and confrontational commercial music. Something the Sex Pistols would exploit in their alliance with major record labels. Remember an artist wants to be heard or their music is redundant. It's the paradox of the artist that it relies on its audience no matter how much it despises it.

As we begin the seventies music is coagulating into different groups. Its the era of super groups; of playing to giant stadiums of people, of money and remoteness by being strung out on drugs and playing music that bears no relation to anyone's lives...anyone for the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway then? These bands were serious bands playing serious music and attracting a fanbase of hippies and musos which is perhaps a little unkind. Following on from Tommy and Sgt Peppers rock was the new classical music and could be listened to as serious music.

In direct contrast and at the same time influenced by acts such as Lou Reed, David Bowie, T Rex and Alice Cooper popular music throws up one of its most bizarre twists when it gives us a genre of brickies in makeup that we remember fondly as glam and glitter rock. An expression of sexuality as marketing that is a perverse twist on the lack of women in music at the time. However what can't be doubted was that Glam made some fucking raucous music that still amazes me was played on the radio then and helped pave the way for the punk look and even sound.

While undoubtedly the genre threw up a number of classics it also had it downside. Glam and theatrics permeated every part of the music business... gave muppets like Queen and Kiss ideas of extravagance and opened up another market of saleability. The fact that artists like Sweet and Suzi Quatro all had their hits made and produced for them by the Chinnichap producing and writing team also supported Glam as a marketing idea. Worse years later, influenced by these glam bands and a Johnny Thunders haircut, we would get a wave of USA bands lie Poison, Kiss, Motley Crue and their ilk inflicting pain on our ears.

Why do men like prettying themselves up to look like women ? Now the fans followed suit with earrings, makeup and spiky short hair a la Bowie. Women, however, still had no real outlet in music beyond the teen fantasies being sold to them by the industry and magazines. Suzi Quatro is the one female musicians with, to pardon the expression, balls and will influence many female musicians afterwards.

Black Metal is, as these genre labels almost always are, something of a misnomer. Most rockers have always worn black, and more than one outsider has seriously wondered whether the term refers to some kind of afro-Caribbean rock sub-genre (a little ironic considering the genre's reputation for fascist overtones). The other alternative to using the term
however, where special pleading by bands leaves you with as many genres as acts - vampire metal, occult metal, hate metal, and whatever the hell else - is an even more confusing situation. I guess Black Metal as a term is then, appropriately, something of a necessary evil. And if you think about it, even the term Heavy Metal itself is hardly descriptive of the genre,
but it's stuck for want of anything else.

Eighties boozy Satanic thrash pioneers Venom have the best claim to having coined the Black Metal moniker, and even they have distanced themselves from it to an extent. Thankfully, subsequent bands have appeared who have taken the term - and ironically Venom's back catalogue - more seriously than Venom ever did. Most serious fans also concede that Black Metal
predates Venom by decades. Indeed many contend that Black Sabbath's eponymous 1970 debut was the first Black Metal album, and in my opinion the first true Heavy Metal recording. But rock act Black Widow predated Sabbath's Satanic imagery by some months - so are they Black Metal?

I'd say yes, inasmuch as the lyrical content was better researched than Sabbath's, though they never pioneered an ominous new sound in the way Ozzie's outfit did. This perhaps is significant. I think one component to Black Metal is demonic imagery and lyrics, but the other is a musical approach as daring or innovative as the visuals and ideas. These tend to go
together organically. People attracted to the extreme concepts and aesthetics of the Devil tend to enjoy and express themselves in a similarly outrageous and passionate fashion. That this has been almost exclusively in rather monotone terms of anger and aggression among Metal musicians has alienated many Satanists, who also perceive subtlety and seduction in their chosen archetype. Demonic music, they argue, is not just older than Venom, or indeed Black Sabbath. It is far, far older than that, in which grand context either band represent little more than fascinating ripples in a profoundly dark ocean.

Ultimately, this has driven something of a wedge between the established Satanic community, who dismiss Metal as adolescent angst, and Black Metal fans who see such Satanists as tedious old bores. This is a shame - but I'm optimistic that the best of both groups are finding some common ground. More authentic Satanists (as opposed to shock-horror poseurs) are appearing with a grounding in the darker fringes of rock, and more reputable Black Metal musicians (as opposed to band-wagon jumping wannabes) are launching increasingly brave and interesting projects that draw on influences which go back not just decades but centuries. While I wouldn't claim demonic musicians of the distant past like Mussorgsky or Tartini were composing Black Metal, if they were around today they might very well be...

Apart from the obvious Satanic imagery, Black Metal is an institution built on the rise of extreme metal in the eighties and solidified by the very real evil of the Norwegian Black Metal explosion of the early nineties. Like Punk, Black Metal transformed a previously unseen select group of outcasts/ bored teenagers into a socially abhorrent reality, sticking two fingers up at the system and to hell with the consequences.
It was an exclusive institution where kids could feed from the brutalisation of a genre through startlingly inhumane acts of violence and an apparent disregard for the stringent laws of the land. A freak show for the masses if you like that has been polished into a musical entity far stronger than it's punk predecessor .
Black Metal has outgrown the underground and become a marketable product much to the disdain of Black Metal purists. The very term Black Metal is now hard to define to an actual style but I would cite the likes of Dark Throne, Marduk, Immortal and Burzum to embrace every hideous echelon of the genre. Every evolving.. is but a new addition of remarkable music loosely entwined within the genre as a whole but never exceeding the archetype of the original blueprint.
In all extreme metals sub-genre's' Black Metal is also one of thee few havens for right wing/ neo nazi purists who are thankfully few and far between and mostly emanate from the former eastern block countries. Black Metal like any other musical embodiment has proved itself a worthy addition to the Metal fraternity and like Death Metal is here to stay, like it or not.

An Bad Encounter with "Focus Infocom"

In my previous comments i did say i never had any problems with focus infocom ... and i did emphasize myself on the word "YET" ,, and they day have come... from 5th of this month i have had NO internet connection and till today even , they have not been able to fix the problems... down below is a small review of the whole thing...( all times are approximate and rounded of to the nearest hr.. hehe)
5 September
9 pm :: this was the first tiem i noticed my internet connection had gone. I thought it a small problem and i just ignored it thinking it would be ok by morning.
6 September
10 am :: I make my first phone call to focus (320880) and the guy to whome i was forwarded asks me my telephone number and that he will get back to me in a little while.
12 am :: i make my second call and another guy this times asks me to see if IP is detected and when to turn modem power off and reboot pc etc... well i didnt say a thing, just did what he asked... well , no progress... he also asks for my number and tells me that hell get back to be in a short while..
3 pm:: 3rd call, and they still have no idear whats wrong and asks for my number AGAIN!!!
5 pm:: 4th call for the day, nothing happening at all and they say its not their peoblem, its a MESCO cable problem... and i tell the guy that thats not my problem coz i pay Focus for the service and they should be responsible, and AGAIN my number was noted down and i asked them if they were really noting down my number coz thats the 4th time you guys have noted down my number and after telling "migulhaaalanee" i have never heard from them..
7th September
9 am:: First call for the day and they say its a MESCO problem and they will contact them and let me know , and as usual noted down my number.. hehe
12 pm:: nothng new, another guy tells me MESCO problem and they have told mesco about it
3 pm:: i made a complain to MESCO was made and they say that its not their problem
3 pm:: same time focus again tells that its MESCO problem and not theirs!
5 pm:: Focus still says cable problem while MESCO says not their problem and the whole night goes fingerpointing at each other
7:30 pm:: 2 technicians from MESCO come and check the modem and the cable as well as the splitter and they say there is no problem and the problem is with focus
( no more phone calls could be made that night, dhiraagu says all the circuits are busy.. hehe)
8th September
9 am:: Seems like they have agreed that there is a slight power variation in the cable something and thats the reason for the problem, and said they will fix it soon. and notes down my number AGAIN!
12 pm:: i call them to see if there is any progress and there is NONE, the guys says the problem have been forwarded to the engineers and i said that its been 4 days for me without any internet and all this is causing a lot of problems for me and my work and more blah blah!
3 pm:: i call and there is no progress , and since the nect day was going to be friday and i was aware that there was not gonna be anything done to repair this on friday... so after more complaining they said they would connect wireless internet to my place temporarily till everything is fixed, ok i agreed
7 pm:: a technicial arrives from Focus and tries to do the setup and there was no signal :) and after 30 mins work he had to give up and that he will be back in a short while
8:30pm:: the technician arrives with reinforcement, one more technician and some long poles, and after an hr of work, there was still no signal.. tried putting transmitter inside poles to i dont know what!.. hehe,

Whole friday goes on with no news from them and i did not call either, still no connection ...
lets see how this whole thign goes... i believe this post is too long now, so i will write a summary report and my views on the service of FOCUS INFOCOM in another post!

well mines been okay for sometime, but it was disconnected on thursday morning, coz i didnt pay the bill...at first they said that they were having some probs, yea they asked me for ma no. and told me that they'l call back...called the 2nd time they did the same thing, the only difference was that this time it was a gal
and the third time i called they forwarded the call to some guy [i guess he was some head staff or smthg] and after sometime he told me that i didnt pay ma bill...so went straight to focus to pay the bill
they told me that they'l re-connect it within 30mins, but i got it only after two and a half hours later...

man annekka did u pay the bill???

and yea i guess i'll hang arnd with focus so that ma dad wudnt faint everytime he gets the bill from dhiraagu

I am fed up to complain... Waited for long it's cheap, but It's not cheap after a 256Kbps and transfer rate is 26Kbps from ROL Home page and 3.7Kbps average from other sites.
On 15 th I am changing to DHIRAAGU ( I hate them) but focus infocom leave me no choice. I used 64K before now 256Kbps NO difference

Grrrr... almost 2 bloody days of dropping my connection and not being able to connect!!!!

this happens every bloody month.. : i wanted focus coz i didnt want to be limted by download limits.......this is even worse... not having connectivity...

what happens when i call up customer service?... "we'll get one of our technicans to call back!"... do they? heck they dont!!! why not? i donno prolly coz i'm a low profile individual who is not worthy of having their problems attended to??? an anyways the problem fixes itself in a day or two anyways.. wat does an individual lose right???!!!

frankly i'm fed up of this.. this is what happened at office too... altho i must say they were quicker to attend to the office problems.... they would i guess coz office was paying them over 7000 rufiya a month and me the unimportant individual is payin only 650 per month for a measly 64k line.. ( not even close to that )

well office changed over to dhiraagu and we've never been happier... i prolly should do too... the ADSL starter might be enuf as a subsitute and prolly enuf bandwith too... seeing that i dont get to download from this connection anyways!!!

seriously if anyone from focus infocom reads this i suggest u put this issue to your customer services dept.. or watever dept it should go to...

if u don't provide proper services to the individual.. you are gonna lose out... in the end they are also making decisions for companies and your other big clients...

well, i changed from DHiraagu to Focus Cable like a week back and i have not come across any technical problems YET! yes the speed is much slower but the connection seems to be stable..

as for friends who have been using focus, i have heard had a lot of poeple complaining.. and yes FATTY!, i know ure connection is baaad!

but as of personal experience, i cant say i have faced any problems .. YET!(i stress again)

can u guys name a single customer whoz happy cox he took a ROL connection? well ill say the ans is NON a big NON... even they are charging in advance for the month and they cant give u a good connection.. this is how it goes u call them from ur landline ur ur mobile phone ur calling a normal number,its not a freaking tollfree number huh? so for the call ur loosing money.. and again another call and again another call ull be loosing like more then what u pay for the connection just to call them.they will say there is not problem or we r looking at it and they will call back.. and for the next call they will say its the carrior's problem. if there was another party they will blame them also. ull be lucky to hear them say its there problem.they wont.. cox its how it goes in all technical things.. lets see dhiraagu do u hear them say its there problem?
